About
Martha Shaw LF'06 has served The Explorers Club in various capacities including producer of Women of the Deep 1, and 2; Explorers Club Annual Dinner (ECAD) committee, Associate Editor of The Explorers Club Log, Associated Editor of EC50, Legacy Society, Press team, Womens 40 committee, San Diego Chapter Membership chair, GLEX, World Oceans Week committee, as well as liaison to the United Nations.
Having served as a media correspondent at UN, she has attended global conferences from COPs, Our Ocean, World Parks Congress, etc. She earned her BA Earth Science and Oceanography at Thompson School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at UNH, Clean Tech Executive certification at NYU, and a graduate degree in Geology at San Diego State (coastal processes) during her tenure at Scripps Institution of Oceanography Shore Processes Lab as Staff Research Associate 5 and diver.
She is founder of Earth Advertising which put her on the cover of Adweek as the first green ad agency, with a mission to reduce industrial impact on our planet. She has won global accolades for her publications, stories, and particularly creative awards for clever and whimsical campaigns. With her team, she helped to found many initiatives in New York City to reduce waste, and energy consumption. She served as Communications Director for Global Island Sustainable Partnerships (GLISPA).
Currently, she has founded Ocean Times, completing her PhD and delving deep in to the mysteries of paleolandscapes and characteristics of past shorelines.
She loves to create and indulges in hand-built ceramics, painting, photogrsphy and has written one novel, "Hook Line and Sinker", and hopes to write more fiction with ecological themes.
Her latest expedition was with the Leatherback Project to protect nesting sites in remote areas of Panama. She often joins Mission Blue expeditions and is the champion of the Mission Blue Hope Spot: Farm Pond on the island of Martha's Vineyard.
