Pam Yochem DVM, PhD

Dr. Pam Yochem is the Executive Vice President and Chief Science Officer at Hubbs-Sea World Research Institute (HSWRI) in San Diego, California. Her current research interests include wildlife disease ecology and epidemiology, marine ecosystem health, and wildlife emergency response. Other recent projects include studies of the population biology and foraging ecology of marine mammals and seabirds in the North Pacific and Antarctic. Dr. Yochem is a USDA-accredited veterinarian and is an affiliated faculty member of the Wildlife Health Center at the University of California – Davis. Dr. Yochem chairs the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee for HSWRI, is a member of the organization’s Fish Health Management Team, and serves on the Advisory Board and the Scientific Advisory Committee for the California Oiled Wildlife Care Network. Past public service appointments include the Unified Port of San Diego’s Environmental Committee, the Marine Fisheries Advisory Committee, which advises the Secretary of Commerce on living marine resource matters, and the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Science Program Working Group, which provides independent guidance and review to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Science Advisory Board. She holds a Master’s Degree in Biology from San Diego State University, and a DVM (wildlife emphasis) and PhD (comparative pathology) from the University of California Davis.
