Steven W. Bickler, MD

Dr. Bickler is a pediatric surgeon whose dedication to children has taken him to distant places. He recently spent more than two and a half years in The Gambia in West Africa as Consulting Pediatric Surgeon at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Banjul and the Medical Research Council Laboratories in Fajara.

From April to June of 1999, Dr. Bickler was a refugee camp physician in Macedonia and Guyana as part of a team of plastic surgeons for Interplast, a nonprofit organization that provides free reconstructive surgery to children in developing countries.

He received the Dennis Burkitt Fellowship to the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in London. He is widely published and has done presentations in the United States and Africa, Australia, Amsterdam and Hong Kong.

Dr. Bickler came to UC San Diego Healthcare in July 1999. He is Clinical Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a pediatric surgeon.
